Amid 1001 next Xbox rumours, 999 of which have been pertaining to the console's alleged always-online functionality, today reports have emerged that Microsoft's next Xbox (codenamed Durango) will actually let you play games offline after all. That's if a supposed internal memo issued by MS officials is to be believed.
"Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet," the internal e-mail message reportedly reads. "There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."
Rumours are still circulating that games will need to be installed to Durango, with speculation pointing to online activation codes. Yet, as ever none of this has been confirmed and we'll know absolutely nothing for certain until Microsoft reveals the next Xbox on May 21st. Then we can put all of these frankly irritating rumour stories to bed.
So will the next Xbox be always-online or won't it always be online? We're saying that keeping offline functionality baked into the console would be the savvy choice. Read Lee's feature outlining the reasons why an always-online Xbox would be a bad idea.

R-JTAG Is Coming…..(New Exploit For Phats)

After several months of development we can now tell you that our new exploit for phat consoles is about to be launched. QUICK FAQ: - R-JTAG comes in two flavors – a starter kit and an ultimate kit with all the bells and whistles - The first release will support Zephyr, Opus, Falcon, Jasper - There will be a Xenon only version - Boot speeds are similar to JTAG and RGH1 (from instaboot to 10 seconds) - Full POST Monitoring with RATER and JRP v2 - Dual Nand works fantastic with the DemoN – especially for Stock / Hacked Nand setups - No more need for RGH1/RGH2 - Works on the very latest dash/kernel versions - Solid, reliable booting Some comments posted by testers on the forums…….. - There are a extremely large portion of instant boots! considering RGH1 and RGH2 were beyond useless on this console – Its fu##in awesome! - My Jasper has never taken more than 15 seconds to boot. I've been using it for months now with an older, unrefined version of the hack. So yeah, its pretty good. - With RJTAG Falcons are now more reliable than Jaspers…..again. We're back to RGH1-type days. - My Split CB Falcon would never boot with RGH2 – it now boots between 7 and 15 seconds every time - Jasper 512 .. wouldn't boot at all with RGH2 – now check out my these Rater timings with RJTAG – WoW see it all here

ACHI SC IR-Pro v2 for sale with the works!

I've decided to sell my ACHI SC IR-Pro v2. I pretty much never use it as the room it's in only has one socket, which powers my monitor/iron/hot air station and xbox PSU. It's not really ever had much use as I have to move it to power it and I simply dont have the room in my makeshift workshop to do this while doing other work - so I never advertise or offer the reflow/reball service. As you can see the PS3/XBox Jig and Stencils are unused from the day I got it (that's how little I have used it!) It comes with; Omega Thermocouples *2 Xbox 360 phat pcb support Xbox 360 slim pcb support PS3 phat(40GB/60GB) PCB support HT-90 latest bga reballing station (90 * 90) leaded 0.6mm solder ball 25K Yellow haired brush Anti-static glove 2/3 of a bottle of Insat Super Flux 1 * Xenon GPU (PreBalled) Anything else related to it that I find will also be chucked in, there's a PS3 Jig in there, but not opened it to identify it. Images can be found here £500 collected. Delivery can be added at cost, but I don't think it'll be cheap, or, I could meet you if you cover petrol. contact Oggy!

Known Flash Configs & Soldering "Check"

If you press F2 in J-Runner (with your J-R Programmer or NAND-X connected to the board and computer), you will get the Flash Config and CB version from the board - I find that this is a very simple way to check that your soldering is good before attempting to read the full NAND.

The output for the above will look something like this (assuming your soldering is good):

Version: 01
Flash Config: 0x01198010
CB Version: 5774
Falcon/Opus

Here is the list of known Flash Configs:
  • Xenon/Zephyr/Falcon/Opus = 0x01198010
  • Jasper 16MB (Small Block Controller) = 0x01198010
  • Jasper 16MB (Big Block Controller) = 0x00023010
  • Jasper 256MB = 0x008A3020
  • Jasper 512MB = 0x00AA3020
  • Trinity = 0x00023010
  • Corona 16MB = 0x00043000

If you get anything other than the above Flash Configs for your board type (0x00, 0x03 or 0xFF for example), check your soldering.

If you are certain that your soldering is good (and don't assume it is until it has had a second look) and you are getting Flash Config 0x00, read this (thanks to Martin C from the Team Xecuter forum).
